The Aventis Foundation enters into an agreement with the Frankfurt Opera to support the “Bockenheimer Depot”
The Aventis Foundation becomes a promotional partner of the Frankfurt Opera
The Aventis Foundation supported the Frankfurt Opera during the three seasons from 2005/2006 until 2007/2008 and thus made possible the productions planned for the Bockenheimer Depot. In 2008 the agreement was extended until 2011.
The Aventis Foundation is supporting this project because the Frankfurt Opera is a first-class partner, both artistically and professionally, and is recognized internationally as well. The Foundation’s decision to continue and expand its cooperation with the staff of the successful opera house is also based on experiences with the “Opera for Families” initiative, which has been underway since 2003.
Three productions per season are planned for the Bockenheimer Depot. The limited funds available to the Aventis Foundation to promote projects are being put to highly effective use. They will permit the realization of an exciting artistic concept over several years which otherwise would have been either not possible or kept to a minimum. This will hopefully attract large audiences who will be able to appreciate and enjoy an unusual repertoire and musical theater in an open space yet intimate setting.
The promotion of the Frankfurt Opera is one element of the Foundation’s project focus on “Rhine-Main Culture.” Other related projects include the promotion of the Ensemble Modern, the Kronberg Academy, the Städel Museum as well as further institutions and artistic groups in the region.
OPERA for FAMILIES
Time and financial constraints often do not allow families with children to attend
opera performances despite keen interest and the fact that as an art form, opera
is a magnificent experience, especially for children. A survey of the general
public revealed that 60% of today’s opera attendees were between 10 and 19 years
of age and accompanied by their parents when they went to the opera for the
first time.
This was the reason behind the decision by the Frankfurt Opera to launch an event
series during the 2003/2004 opera season entitled “OPERA for FAMILIES,“ made
possible by a start-up grant from the Aventis Foundation. The series comprised
five different productions out of the current line-up, with earlier performance
starting times. Children and teenagers up to the age of 18 accompanied by their
parents were admitted to the performances free of charge. Due to its great success, the
program be offered again during the 2004/2005 opera season.
The artistic sophistication of its productions have made the Frankfurt Opera one
of the most well-known opera houses in Europe. In 2003, the Frankfurt Opera was
voted Germany’s “Opera House of the Year,“ a distinction which it has earned
repeatedly.
